Peter Plogojowitz, Vampire of Serbia - 1725
VampiresMonstersUndeadMythologyLoreNosferatuDraculaDeath

There is a documented report of the Peter Plogojowitz case from Vienna, which was published in the Viennese newspaper Wienerisches Diarium, now known as Die Wiener Zeitung. The report by Imperial Provisor Frombald provides one of the earliest documented testimonies about vampire beliefs in Eastern Europe. The report describes how Plogojowitz's body was exhumed after villagers claimed he had appeared to them and caused their deaths. Upon exhumation, the body was found to be undecomposed, with blood at the mouth, leading to the villagers staking and burning the body to stop the supposed vampire attacks.
